Why measure hydrogen?

Hydrogen is the most abundant chemical element in the universe, and is highly combustible. As such, it is a common contaminant in medical gases and the high-purity industrial gases manufactured in air separation units. Hydrogen gas analyzers that can measure at trace and ultra-trace levels are essential to ensure the required purity levels. Measuring hydrogen in several industrial processes also helps improve process efficiency.

How hydrogen gas analyzers work to measure H2

Servomex sensing technologies measure hydrogen at parts-per-million, parts-per-billion, and parts-per-trillion levels for trace impurity monitoring.

  • Gas Chromatography separates out the constituent components of a gas mixture, allowing relative concentrations to be determined. Under optimized conditions, it can measure down to parts-per-billion (ppb) levels, making it ideal for high-purity control processes.
  • Servomex’s Plasma emission detection technology was developed to provide a safer alternative to flame-based sensing for hydrocarbon analysis, and delivers ultra-low measurements. It provides highly sensitive and selective speciation, so is only suitable for trace analysis applications.

Our solutions

Our safe area hydrogen gas analyzers, the SERVOPRO Chroma, SERVOPRO NanoChrome, and SERVOPRO NanoChrome ULTRA utilize Plasma sensing combined with Gas Chromatography to deliver trace and ultra-trace measurements of H2 as an impurity in industrial gases, medical gases, and in semiconductor manufacturing.

Our solutions for Hydrogen gas analysis

For the trace and ultra-trace measurements needed in purity monitoring, Servomex provides the SERVOPRO Chroma, SERVOPRO NanoChrome, and SERVOPRO NanoChrome ULTRA. These H2 gas analyzers use Plasma Emission Detector sensing combined with Gas Chromatography techniques to deliver hydrogen gas analysis at parts-per-million, parts-per-billion, and parts-per-trillion levels. The SERVOPRO PureGas getter-based purifier for light hydrocarbon measurements reduces outlet impurity levels for oxygen, moisture, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, methane, and nitrogen to low parts-per-billion (ppb) levels or below. And the SERVOTOUGH H2Scan – typically used in combination with the SERVOTOUGH SpectraScan 2400 – is an explosion-proof in-line hydrogen analyzer configured to operate in process gas streams.
